DPCDSB Students Elect Student Trustees for
2019-2020 School Year
On May 1, Sheanne Jesudhason, and Evgeny (Eugene) Zanone were elected by their peers to serve as student trustees on the DPCDSB Board of Trustees for one-year terms commencing in September. Sheanne is a Grade 11 student from Holy Name of Mary Catholic Secondary School and Eugene is a Grade 11 student at Loyola Catholic Secondary School in Mississauga. The elections were held at the DPCDSB's Catholic Education Centre.
Student trustees serve an important role, representing student voice in discussions and decision-making on matters brought before the Board of Trustees. In addition, they help keep students across the DPCDSB informed about important issues and decisions of the Board of Trustees that affect them. Student trustees attend and participate in monthly public Board and standing committee meetings where they serve in a non-voting capacity. They regularly report to the Board of Trustees on Student Senate matters and may represent DPCDSB student voice at school and community events as well as student conferences.
"We value and appreciate our student trustees as they bring an authentic perspective to our deliberations; a perspective that helps keep us attuned with an extremely important segment of stakeholders," said Sharon Hobin, Chair of the Board of Trustees. "On behalf of my colleagues on the Board of Trustees, I offer my congratulations to Sheanne and Eugene and look forward to having them serve with us starting this fall. I would also take the opportunity to thank our current student trustees, Rynel Pinto and Faye Rozario for their outstanding representation of student voice on the Board of Trustees during the current school year."
