Extraordinary Lives Start With a Great Catholic Education

DPCDSB Statement on 215 First Nations Children Buried at BC Residential School

 Catalog-Item Reuse ‭[1]‬

Flags at DPCDSB schools and facilities have been lowered in response to the discovery of the remains of 215 children buried in unmarked graves at the Kamloops Indian Residential School in British Columbia. Our hearts are heavy and we hold in our prayers the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc nation and the thousands of Indigenous peoples across these lands who are reliving the horrors of genocide.

Residential schools are not unique to British Columbia. As a nation, and as a Catholic community, it is our calling to critically reflect and examine the ongoing colonialism and racism that continue to exist towards Indigenous Peoples. We recognize our responsibility within education, and we are committed to ongoing action. We will continue the important work of restoration, reparation, and reconciliation throughout the DPCDSB and we are committed to collectively work together to dismantle the oppression systems that continue to exist.
