Father Daniel Zanon School was founded in 1999 but from September 1999 until January 2000 it operated in St. Philip Elementary School. On January 10, 2000 its new building opened on the site of a former Mississauga brickyard at 450 Hillcrest Ave. Father Daniel Zanon School was blessed on October 5th, 2000.
Father Daniel Zanon was the much beloved pastor of the local parish, St. Catherine of Siena. Not only was he the founding pastor of the parish, he was also instrumental in the development of Catholic schools in the area. A member of the Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Charles, the Scalabrini Fathers are well known for their work with immigrants and refugees.
The school, exemplifying its motto, "Let His Light Shine," works to continue the legacy of Fr. Zanon, the first pastor of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, who was outstanding in his support of and contribution to education. The school continues his legacy through activities like collecting items for annual food drives, Christmas baskets, supporting ShareLife, and contributing to the parish drives.
