ST. VALENTINE
St. Valentine was a holy priest in Rome, who assisted the Christians under persecution by Claudius II. Even though the emperor forbade it, Saint Valentine refused to renounce his faith. He continued to help Christians and was said to have been executed. About the year 270 Pope Julius I had a church built in the saint's memory near Ponte Mole. Most of his relics are now in the Church of St. Praxedes. St. Valentine's name is celebrated as that of an illustrious martyr on the day of February 14th.
St. Valentine was known to be a humble gentleman, a priest and a physician. Daily prayer was very important. He has been known as the patron saint of young people in general, love and lovers, travelers, bee keepers, greetings, epidemics against plague, fainting and epilepsy. "Love your neighbours as yourself." Leviticus 19:18
