Dance Audition Information
Thank you for participating in St. Roch's dance workshop. Below are a few reminders for your audition day. Please read the information carefully to ensure you are fully prepared for your audition.
Dance Audition Information
Following the workshop on Saturday January 16th, material will be posted on our school website (please allow a few days for this process).
Included in this video will be:
▪ A series of technique exercises demonstrated that applicants must learn and perform in their audition.
▪ A short Dance combination applicants must learn and perform in their audition.
In addition to these two items, students are expected to perform a self-choreographed routine in any Dance style (further details below). It is suggested that students perform in their strongest Dance style.
Students will also participate in an interview where they will be asked a series of questions about Student Commitment, Dance Experience and Faith.
Therefore, the audition will include the following:
- Performance of Technique Exercises
- Performance of Dance Combination
- Self-Choreographed Dance Performance
- Interview
Reminders
▪ Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your audition to change and warm-up. Time will NOT be given during the audition to warm-up.
▪ Please be sure to wear all black dance clothes. This may include leggings, bodysuits, shorts, tank tops, etc. All clothes must be fitted so technique can be observed. Jeans may NOT be worn on audition day.
▪ Hair must be tied back in a ponytail or bun. Please be sure to tie back bangs or any loose hair that may cover the face.
▪ Applicants are required to perform a piece of their own choreography. Choreography may be in any style of dance (no tap allowed). Please ensure your routine is a minimum of 40 seconds and a maximum of 1 minute and that music is downloaded on your device, as service in the dance studio is limited.

Across the Floor- Kicks
- Students may perform their stronger side at auditions (left or right side)
Across the Floor- Pirouettes
- Students may perform their stronger side at auditions (left or right side)
Across the Floor- Jumps (Grande Jeté)
- Students may perform their stronger side at auditions (left or right side)
Dance Combination
- Students must perform the combination as taught at the workshop (video attached). Two counts of eight of improvisation is expected at the end
