Robert F. Hall  1925-1989

Shortly after moving to Caledon, a neighbor asked Robert F. Hall to attend a meeting of parent’s at St. Peter’s School in Orangeville. When nominations for trustee were called for, Father Mahoney the pastor of the parish, said, “That new man would be great!” – and so began Robert Hall’s 25 year relationship with education in Dufferin and Peel counties.

Robert Hall’s first five years (1964-1969) were spent with the Orangeville Roman Catholic School Board. Three years after the formation of the Dufferin-Peel Roman Catholic Separate School Board in 1969, Robert Hall became Chairman and served in that office from 1972 to 1976 and again from 1979 until his death in 1989. During these 20 years, Robert Hall enjoyed the great electoral support of his constituents in Orangeville, Caledon, Albion, Bolton, and Wildfield.

In his spare time, Robert Hall bred and raced standard-bred horses. He was an affiliate of the Capuchin Friars of Canada and a Knight of the Holy Sepulchre. He and his wife Helen raised two sons and a daughter. It is significant that Robert F. Hall is the first lay person after whom a Catholic Secondary School has been named in Dufferin-Peel. As a father, businessman, and school board trustee, he believed in the importance of Christian values permeating all aspects of one’s life. Robert Hall always dreamed of the establishment of a Catholic secondary school for his northern constituents. With the opening of Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School, named in his honour, that dream became a reality.
