School Council

Parental involvement is one of the most significant factors contributing to a child’s success in school.

When parents are involved in their children’s education, the level of student achievement increases. Students attend school more regularly; they complete more homework in a consistent manner and demonstrate more positive attitudes towards school. They are also more likely to complete high school [i].

The purpose of a Catholic school council is through the active participation of parents, to improve pupil

achievement and to enhance the accountability of the education system to parents.

Recognizing that parent engagement can happen at home and does not have to be defined as volunteer or committee work at school, the Pauline Vanier School Council also has a Parent Engagement sub-committee. This sub-committee is committed to helping parents in the Pauline Vanier community access resources that they can use to help their children succeed in school. We're also working toward fostering a sense of community among parents and teachers in the school.

The Pauline Vanier Catholic School Council meets at 6:45 in the school library on the first Monday of the month (we do not meet every month). You do not have to be a member of council to attend a school council meeting. These meetings provide a forum though which parents and other members of school communities can contribute to improving student achievement and school performance. Please note that issues related to specific students or teachers must be discussed with the school principal directly.
