ST. MICHAEL CATHOLIC SECONDARY SCHOOL
February 2 2020
Dear Parent/ Guardian,
As many of you are aware, your Grade 10 son/daughter is required to write the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). Successful completion of the test is required in order for your son or daughter to graduate with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
This year's OSSLT, commonly known as the Literacy Test, will be written in Spring 2021. While a date has not yet been determined, the Ministry of Education continues to explore a field test of the OSSLT online. This will allow the grade 10 students to have the opportunity to write the test and have successful attempts recorded on their transcript.
As part of the school's initiative to work towards student success, the Literacy Committee has various strategies in place to help students practice and prepare for the Literacy Test. One of these includes the opportunity for your son or daughter to attend virtual after-school remediation classes.
If you feel your son/daughter needs extra help, our school will be running a round of after-school remediation classes beginning the week of February 22, which will run until the week of March 31.
Please fill out the form attachment (below) and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org by February 16.
Here are the following dates of the classes which will be held virtually:
Monday February 22 and Wednesday February 24 (2:30-3:30)
Monday March 1 and Wednesday March 3 (2:30-3:30)
Monday March 8 and Wednesday March 10 (2:30-3:30)
Monday March 22 and Wednesday March 24 (2:30-3:30)
Monday March 29 and Wednesday March 31 (2:30-3:30)
These after-school classes will be taught by one of our teachers and he or she will teach and reinforce important skills, tips, and criteria that your child will need to be successful on the test. Even though all grade 9 and 10 courses will have OSSLT instruction, as a school we have found that students are able to achieve better OSSLT results and attain a high degree of confidence in their literacy abilities overall through attending these after-school classes.
We are confident by working together, your child will be successful.
