PaperCuts Book Club
  • The LLC offers a reading club where students are encouraged to share their current reads with like minded students. This is an opportunity to socialize around reading in order to discuss, express and share their reading experiences. Students will also have the chance to make connections between what they are reading current events and issues in society.

White Pine Reading Club

  • The White Pine™ Award reading program offers high school-aged teens at all grade levels the opportunity to read the best of Canada's recent young adult fiction and non-fiction titles. Each  year a Fiction list is offered and every other year a Non- Fiction list is nominated so readers can choose from two lists. This program promotes reading for enjoyment among high school-aged students and familiarizes them with great Canadian books, by Canadian authors. Source: Ontario Library  Association

Dungeons & Dragons Club

  • Another club that runs out of the LLC is the D&D club. This is a structured yet open group role-playing game played with 3-9 individuals. Campaigns are designed by the DM  (the narrator and referee of the story), where he leads the players on adventure using his creativity and imagination. The journey is determined by a series of decisions the player makes while confronted with different scenarios. This is a popular club, which runs every  Wednesday.

Mustang Literary Leaders Program

  • The Library Learning Commons (LLC) has introduced the Mustang Literary Leaders Program this year. The goal of this program is to acknowledge and reward students who appreciate and value books and reading. There are students that look for opportunities, whether in school or on their personal time to read and the Mustang Literary Leaders Program has been created to recognize these students for their dedication to/interest in/passion for reading.

  • The Mustang Literary Leader reward card helps students track their reading. When a student completes reading 10 books and can provide a brief synopsis of each book, they receive a stamp on their personal Mustang Literary Leader card. Once a student accumulates 10 stamps, they are invited to a luncheon at the end of the year (May) to celebrate.

Seasonal Programs

  • Throughout the year the LLC offers season specific activities celebrating our Catholic heritage as well as promoting community among staff and students. For examples of such programming please visit us on Instagram @smlearningcommons, to see our history of great events and fun activities.
