MUSIC ENSEMBLES
Drumline
This ensemble is currently comprised of 18 members who play a variety of marching percussion instruments including: snares, tenors, bass drums and cymbals. The Drumline performs at Friday Night Lights, school charity events, and concerts. They also compete in regional and provincial competitions. They ranked 3rd at the 2012 Ontario Drumline Association Provincial Championships! Admission to this ensemble is by audition only. Students must understand basic music theory and must be able to read and play drum sheet music in order to audition. Auditions take place in June and September, annually.
Junior Concert Band
This ensemble is open to students in grades 9 and 10 who are enrolled in an instrumental music class. Emphasis is placed on developing performance abilities in a public setting. This ensemble plays in school concerts, and competes at the Ontario Band Association Music Festival as well as Canada’s Wonderland and other events.
Senior Concert Band
This ensemble is open to students in grades 11 and 12 who are enrolled in an instrumental music class and have a well developed level of music theory and performance practice. Emphasis is placed on performance of advanced level repertoire, with a focus on competing locally and abroad. Membership in this band may also present opportunities for performance in places such as the United States or Europe. Stage Band This ensemble focuses on the performance of jazz and popular music, incorporating band instruments with electric instruments and keyboard. The ensemble is open to all students who are enrolled in music and have an understanding of basic music and jazz theory as well as improvisational technique. This ensemble performs in school concerts and events, as well as at competitions. An audition may be required for admission to this ensemble.
