St. Hilary Elementary School History

St. Hilary opened in September of 1992 as part of the Dufferin-Peel Roman Catholic School Board. Its official Blessing was on May 16, 1993 and celebrated by (then) Principal, Gerri Allen, and (then) Father Terence F. D'Souza, and all staff, students and families present in the neighbourhood at that time.

In 1992, the Director of Education as T. J. Reilly and Superintendent of Schools was J. W. Watts.

St. Hilary was designed and conceived by Moffet & Duncan Architects Inc.

During the School Blessing in May of 1993, a Time Capsule was placed in the foyer of the school. The location is on the wall opposite the office. After being opened in a grand ceremony on the 10th anniversary, the Time Capsule was once again placed in the wall of the foyer to be opened again on the twenty-fifth anniversary of the school.

During the time since its opening, St. Hilary has been the home to many students - including those being housed until St. Jude and San Lorenzo Ruiz schools were built. Many may remember the portables placed in the school's backyard for several years - also known as "portable city".

In the school year 2000/2001, a new addition was added in the area of the original port-a-pak. This addition stretches around the complete rear of the building and opened to staff and students in the spring of 2001.
