St. Helen Separate School

St Helen.jpg

St. Helen Separate School, which opened in 1969, is named after St. Helena, the English-born mother of Constantine, the ruler who brought Christianity to the Roman Empire. St. Helena, who is said to be the daughter of Coel, a British king, was a builder of churches and reported finder of the true cross.

When St. Helen School opened, it had grades 1 to 4 and added a new grade each year until it went to grade 8. St. Helen School began as an open concept school in keeping with ministry suggestions at that time. When the school opened, the school used the second floor and library and the board used the first floor as a holding school. St. Christopher Church is our local parish. We have weekly school visits and all liturgical celebrations and masses are celebrated in the school gymnasium.

Our school lives out the motto, "Growing Together in Christ." Today, our twelve-room school has close to 200 students. Each year, our school participates in Thanksgiving and Christmas food drives and the Youth Faith Ambassadors sponsor a variety of outreach events.
