Settlement Workers in Schools program (SWIS) is a partnership between agencies in the settlement sector, school boards and Citizenship and Immigration. It provides provide various services to families new to Canada to assist them in successfully integrating into the Canadian society. Further information can be obtained at www.settlement.org/edguide/
SWIS has produced an 8 minute video on elementary parent teacher interview, covering what is typically discussed and what kinds of questions is often asked in such an interview. This award is presented to the student who has demonstrated interest, energy, and loyalty to our school in all their years at Divine Mercy.
Athlete of the Year Award:
This award is presented to the students who have shown a keen interest in all facets of athletics including physical education classes and school teams. They have displayed outstanding ability in the various aspects of the athletic program. These students have also displayed outstanding sportsmanship, team spirit, co-operation, and leadership.
French Award:
This award is presented to the student who is able to produce a high level of academic achievement in the strands of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing, while also embodying a general love for the French language. This student demonstrated a constant participation in all aspects of the French programme.
Mathematics Award: Highest Average:
This award is presented to the student with the highest average across all math strands.
Mathematics Award:
This award is presented to the students who consistently achieved a high standard of academic excellence in Mathematics. These students creatively solve problems, apply mathematical processes and relate Mathematics to everyday life. They willingly share knowledge and skills with their peers, often providing direction and leadership in group situations.
English Award: Highest Average:
This award is presented to the student with the highest average across all English strands.
English Award :
This award is presented to the student who consistently demonstrated a solid growth in all areas of the English Program. This student’s work reflected imagination and creativity, as well as an appropriate use of form and structure. This student's love of reading and writing was evident in all areas of the curriculum.
Science Award:
This award is presented to the student who demonstrates a genuine interest in the scientific process and a keen curiosity about the world around us. This student has a firm grasp of the current scientific theory that governs the disciplines of Cells, Water Systems, Systems in Action, and Fluids covered in the Grade 8 programme.
History Award :
This award is presented to the student who has demonstrated a genuine interest in the historical events that have shaped our present day and the lessons they hold for us today. This student has demonstrated perseverance and a solid understanding of the concepts taught in this area of study.
Geography Award:
This award is presented to the student who has consistently demonstrated a conscientious understanding of the Christian role in our global village. This student showed a thorough understanding of the foundational concepts of geographic inquiry necessary to our continuing understanding of the physical environment and human patterns.
The Arts Award:
This award is presented to the students who consistently achieved a high standard of academic excellence in the Arts Program. These students demonstrated consistent efforts in creativity, originality and expression of their artistic talent. These students showed enthusiasm for The Arts in every facet of their participation in each strand and extracurricular school events.
Academic Achievement Award:
This award is presented to the students who have the highest overall academic average for the Grade 8 school year. These students consistently displayed initiative and willingly accepted challenges and consistently produced work that exceeded the curriculum expectations.
Valedictorian Award:
This award is presented to the student who effectively exemplifies the aspirations and capabilities of this year’s graduates, while also embodying the spirit, faith and responsibility consistent with a student who represents the type of personal and academic success nurtured in our Grade 8 students.
