Edge Imaging Award

This award is presented to a student who is highly motivated, and consistently demonstrates initiative while making substantial contributions to the life of the school.

Edward King Memorial Scholarship

This award was established by the Secondary School Principals’ Association to honour the contribution of leadership of Edward King, Principal of Father Goetz S.S. who died in April of 1992.  This award is given to a student in the graduating class of all secondary schools who demonstrates academic excellence and leadership in the school program.

Governor General’s Medal Award

The Governor General’s Medal is awarded to the student who graduates with the highest standing in the last two years of his or her secondary education.

Heart of Cabot Award

This award is presented to a student who is highly respected by peers and staff for their love of our school. This is a student who embraces the virtue of acceptance by living our school motto of faith, hope, and charity.

Jacor Marketing Award for Student Equality

This award is presented to the student who best exemplifies student equality by taking measures to prevent bullying and promote inclusion within the student body.

John Cabot Catholic School Council Generosity of Spirit Award

This award is presented to a student who generously shares his/her talents, gifts and time in various areas of school life.  The recipient of this award can always be counted on to help with John Cabot activities and initiatives.  He or she generously shares his/her spirit with others.

Joseph Geiser Award of Excellence

This award is presented to a student who, throughout all four years in the John Cabot Catholic community, has shown outstanding academic achievement (honour roll status); as well as leadership skills and initiative in two or more extra-curricular activities or regularly volunteers his/her time with John Cabot events; and has shown interest in Colts’ Athletics by actively participating on a John Cabot sports team.  The recipient of this award also demonstrates the values of the Catholic community by reflecting the school motto of faith, hope and charity.

Just Catering Contribution Award

This award recognizes a student who has made positive contributions to the school and/or community, displayed leadership skills and exemplified Christian spirit.

Knights of Columbus Award

This award is presented to a graduating student in recognition of being actively involved in both the church and the community.

Lieutenant Governor’s Community Volunteer Award

This award recognizes an exemplary volunteer among the graduating students.  It pays tribute to a student who goes above and beyond the required community hours needed to graduate.

The National Book Awards

The University of Toronto National Book Award Program is intended to recognize and reward the very best Canadian secondary school students, regardless of which university those students choose to attend. These are students who demonstrate superior academic performance, original and creative thought, and exceptional achievement in a broad context. They excel in academic pursuits, demonstrate enthusiasm for intellectual exploration and have a strong involvement in the lives of their schools and communities.

Oscar Romero Award

This award is presented to a student who promotes social justice and community involvement by encouraging the student population to seek awareness of social justice issues and then work towards improving the human condition.

Principal’s Award

The Principal’s Award recognizes a student who embodies the Catholic School Graduate Expectations and exemplifies our school motto of faith, hope and charity in their actions and their witness to our faith. In addition to the leadership they so selflessly offer to our school community, this student has distinguished their academic record by maintaining at least an 80% overall average each year, and has been a member of at least one team, club, or event in each year they have attended Cabot. The Principal’s award recognizes the student whose respect for their faith, their classmates and their education is a model for all students to emulate.

St. Kateri Tekakwitha Courage Award

The patroness of John Cabot Catholic S.S. is St. Kateri Tekakwitha. The St. Kateri Tekakwitha Courage Award is awarded to the student who, like our school patron saint, has demonstrated heroic courage and constant perseverance in overcoming life’s obstacles. Like St. Kateri Tekakwitha, this graduate is recognized for being diligent and determined when difficulties arise and having strength and courage to overcome adversity.

Secondary Student Catholic Leadership Award

This award recognizes a student who strives to celebrate the signs and sacred mystery of God’s presence through word, sacrament, prayer, forgiveness, reflection and moral living.  This student uses all aspects of communication to honestly and sensitively reflect gospel values.  A collaborative contributor in the workplace, this student solves problems and makes responsible decisions with an informed moral conscience.  Attending to family, school, parish, and the wider community, this student actively gives witness to Catholic social teachings by promoting peace, justice and the sacredness of human life.

Sonia Rebellato Memorial Graduation Award

This award recognizes a student who educates and promotes environmental and/or social justice awareness among the John Cabot Catholic and /or DPCDSB community.  Similar to Ms. Rebellato, the recipient does not seek recognition for his/her actions but simply drives change from “behind the scenes”.

Thomas J. Reilly Scholarship

This scholarship was established in recognition of the contribution of Tom Reilly as Director of Education upon his retirement in 1995. This award is presented annually in every secondary school to a graduating student who has demonstrated excellence in the study of a modern language and intends to pursue post secondary education.

Westminster Court Residents’ Association English Award

This award is sponsored by Westminster Court Residents’ Association and is presented to a student of English who demonstrates a passion for reading and writing.  This student has achieved success while overcoming challenges and he or she recognizes the power of the written and spoken word.

Westminster Court Residents’ Association Iron Chef Award

This award is sponsored by Westminster Court Residents’ Association and is presented to a student who is willing to share his/her time and talents, is considerate and helpful, and goes above and beyond the call of duty.  From mise en place through the entire cooking process, this student exemplifies a passion for cooking and a commitment to hard work.
