The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) measures whether students are meeting the minimum standard for literacy across all subjects. This year, the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) will be offering the computerbased online OSSLT to Grade 10, 11 and non-graduating Grade 12 students. Successful completion of this literacy test is one of the requirements to earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
The OSSLT is being made available to students who are learning in-person. Remote students will need to attend in-person to write this test. Students who are learning remotely must inform the school that they wish to write the OSSLT. Grade 11 remote learners will be able to declare their intention to write the OSSLT in person via the Google Form that will be sent to their student e-mail.
The OSSLT will be administered over a number of days in the Fall and Spring Session. Grade 11 and Non-graduating Grade 12 students will be writing in the Fall, while Grade 10 students will be writing in the Spring. Below you will find the dates the OSSLT will be written in the Fall at Ascension.

Students will complete the assessment in two sessions (Session A and Session B) in one day. Each session is designed to be completed in 60 minutes, and students will complete each session in one sitting. Additional time will be provided for any students who require it. After completing both sessions, students will be presented with a questionnaire that asks them about their experiences, attitudes and perceptions with respect to literacy.
Results will be released after the open-response questions have been scored. An Individual Student Report will be generated for each student after the scoring of the assessment. Students writing OSSLT in the Fall Session will receive their reports by the end of January 2022. Shortly, Grade 11s will be invited to a Google Classroom where they will have access to OSSLT practice materials and teacher support. Grade 10s will have access to this classroom in Quad 3. Students also have the opportunity to become familiar with the online test and its platform through EQAO’s online practice test.
