ST. ANDREW SCHOOL
St. Andrew Elementary School was opened in 1985 and blessed on May 22, 1986. Built in an area still surrounded by open fields, the school opened with 275 students and a staff of twelve teachers. The original Principal was Jack Taylor. Today St. Andrew has a student population of 418 students. To accommodate the growing student population a two-story addition with twelve classrooms was opened in 2007. St. Andrew has strong social concerns and an outreach into the community, supporting charitable organizations activities at St. Timothy Church, ShareLife, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Lighthouse Soup Kitchen and the Orangeville FoodBank. The school is named after Jesus' disciple, who was the brother of St. Peter (the original name of the Catholic Church in Orangeville). After Jesus' death, Andrew preached the Gospel across the known world. It is believed that he was martyred in Patras, Greece on a cross in the form of an X.
