DECEMBER 2024
Today is White Ribbon Day, a time to remember and take action against violence toward women. This day marks the anniversary of the tragic mass shooting at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal on December 6, 1989, where 14 young women lost their lives. It serves as a reminder to stand against all forms of violence and work toward a safer, more inclusive world. We invite you to pick up a white ribbon and sign a pledge to stand against violence during 3BC lunch today in Cardinal Avenue. We would also like to share some community partners that help women in need of support, especially important during the difficult times we face today. The following community supports are available:
1. Safe Centre of Peel located in Brampton on 60 West Drive
2. The HEAL Network, also located at 60 West Drive. They offer walk-in counselling for individuals, couples and families.
3. Peel Children’s Aid Society
4. Victim Services of Peel- please check out the website for more information.
For more information on community counselling and group services please visit the school board website for the links. And please check the White Ribbon Campaign for more information at www.whiteribbon.ca . Let’s come together to honor the victims and commit to making a difference. Thank you.

The Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board is proud to recognize November as Hindu Heritage Month. Hinduism is a religion which originated in the Indian subcontinent over 5,000 years ago which makes it the world’s oldest religion. Today, it is the third largest religion in the world with over 1 billion followers and is the third largest religion in Brampton with over 100,000 followers which makes up roughly 20% of our diverse city’s population. Since the first Hindu immigrants arrived in Canada in 1903, Hindu Canadians have made countless contributions to Canadian society. This includes, but is not limited to, politics, medicine, education, law, culture, business, sports, and more. Guided by your Spirit, may our combined efforts help to build up a world where your blessings are shared generously, where our labor yields the fruits of justice, healing and peace.

October is LGBTQ History Month, a time to reflect on the struggles and
resilience of the LGBTQ+ community in Canada. A pivotal event in this
history is the 1981 police raid on Toronto's gay gathering spaces, leading to
over 300 arrests—the largest mass arrest in Toronto’s history.
These actions disrupted lives, closed businesses, and led to harassment,
with police notifying employers, which often resulted in job losses. This
injustice sparked a public outcry; over 3,000 people marched to demand
change, initiating a movement that ultimately led to protections for sexual
orientation under the Canadian Human Rights Act in 1996.
Today, the annual Toronto Pride festival celebrates this resilience, fostering
a commitment to inclusivity and allyship. Honouring this history reflects our
Catholic values of human dignity, respect, and community.
LGBTQ History Month teaches us to be compassionate allies, standing
against injustice and building a diverse, respectful community. This
commitment to allyship supports the dignity of each person, a value central
to our Catholic faith
