Student Transportation Update
Welcome back! By way of this Information Bulletin, we want to provide you with an update on student transportation service, specifically in relation to the bus driver shortages we experienced last year. This has been the subject of media coverage recently with respect to some of our neighbouring school boards.
Student Transportation of Peel Region (STOPR), the transportation consortia that operates student transportation for the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board and the Peel District School Board, have been working closely with the school bus operators to ensure that we do not experience a repeat of the extensive delays and disruptions we experienced due to of driver shortages last year in Peel Region. The school bus operators have reported that all routes have an assigned driver for the start of this school year.
Wellington-Dufferin Student Transportation Services (STWDSTS), serving students in Dufferin County, did not experience any driver shortage last year and continue to have drivers assigned to all bus routes.
While all routes have assigned drivers, we do anticipate that the typical "start of the year" situations may arise during the first few weeks of the school year as the consortia review and refine bus routes to reflect system needs. This is not unusual with a transportation network as large as the systems operated by STOPR and STWDSTS.
If you have any questions or concerns related to student transportation services in Peel Region, please call STOPR at 905-890-6000 or visit the STOPR website at www.stopr.ca.
Conversely, if you have questions or concerns related to student transportation in Dufferin County, please call the STWDSTS at 519-824-4119 or visit their website at www.stwdsts.ca.
Should circumstances change, as the school year gets underway, we will communicate with you further.
