October – Child Abuse Prevention Month
"With God we shall do valiantly." Psalm 60:12 October is Child Abuse Prevention Month. Children's Aid Societies (CAS) across Ontario are inviting community stakeholders to support their Go PURPLE campaign in an effort to 'break the silence' that surrounds child abuse, to prevent future harm, and to promote healing. Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board along with other regional school boards invites staff, students and trustees to wear Purple on Tuesday, October 24 in support of this Child Abuse Prevention Campaign. Secondary schools may wish to consider supporting #iBREAKthesilence with proceeds collected from a future civvies day. October-November - Secondary School Information Sessions for Grade 8 Students and Parents
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board will hold a series of public information sessions for Grade 8 students and their parents/guardians interested in enrolling in a Dufferin-Peel Catholic secondary school for the 2018-19 school year. Dufferin-Peel's secondary school public information sessions will take place throughout October and November. A schedule is posted on the Board website. October 15-21 - Celebrating Local Government Week
October 15-21 has been designated by the province of Ontario as Local Government Week with the goal of increasing youth and public awareness about the role local government plays in our communities. During Local Government Week, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board will highlight the role of our Catholic school trustees and the service they provide to our school communities. A Local Government Week webpage has been posted to the Board website with more information about the role of Catholic school trustees, how to become a trustee and how to contact your local trustee.

October 19 – International Baccalaureate Information Night at St. Francis Xavier S.S.
On October 19, St. Francis Xavier Secondary School will be holding an International Baccalaureate (I.B.) October 25 - Personal Support Worker (PSW) Information Night
Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board's Adult and Continuing Education will hold an information night for adults 21 years and interested earning a Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate. The PSW program trains the adult learner to provide or assist with personal care for the elderly, the chronically ill and people with physical disabilities living in the community, in long-term care facilities and in select ambulatory settings. This a full-day program which includes in-school instructional courses and two co-operative education components. The information night will be held on Wednesday October 25 at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Learning Centre, 3566 South Common Court, Mississauga. The Annual Peel Regional Mock Bail Tournament will take place at the A. Grenville and William Davis Courthouse in Brampton on November 3. The Tournament is run through the Peel Legal Education Network in partnership with the Dufferin-Peel Catholic and Peel School Boards. This tournament is open to students enrolled in Grade 11 Law. The tournament is open to eight schools from Dufferin-Peel and Peel School Boards and fills up quickly. As this exciting holiday tale unfolds, Babes, along with her new BFF Nicholas and the audience, embark upon a journey.
