  • Letter to Communitry - A Netflix series, 13 Reasons Why
    Dear Elementary Parents and Guardians: A Netflix series, 13 Reasons Why, based on a novel by Jay Asher, has recently been in the news as it has raised concern regarding the portrayal of suicide. This series is about a high school student who dies by suicide, leaving behind 13 cassette messages that share the events that she believes have led to her death. The series is graphic and sensationalizes the act of suicide. This may lead to some vulnerable students misinterpreting its message. (Read more...)

  • FREE Clothing Giveaway (PDF)
    Staff at St. Catherine of Siena have emptied out their closets, and will be having a clothing giveaway here at the school on Thursday, May 4, 2017 (1:30-6:30 p.m.). This event is for all families, please come by and take what you’d like. Clothing will be new or gently used. Clothes not taken will be donated to Dr. Simone, but we’d love to see it used by families here at the school.

  • Peel's 'File your taxes, Get your Benefits' campaign to help families with their taxes
    Peel Region is pleased to announce the launch of the Region’s File your taxes, Get your Benefits campaign. This is their first campaign dedicated to encouraging low-income Peel residents to use free tax preparation services offered by the Region and non-profit organizations to access all of the benefits they are eligible to receive by filing their taxes correctly. http://www.povertyinpeel.ca/index.asp.  The site also includes a number of information tools including the schedule of free tax preparation sessions in March and April and a link to the Canada Revenue Agency’s roster of local tax clinics hosted by other non-profit and community organizations.

  • A Catholic Community, Culture, and Caring School Climate Survey has been developed to provide an opportunity for parents and guardians to express feedback regarding their perceptions of school climate. All parents and guardians of students in Dufferin-Peel are invited to participate. You can access the survey link by visiting the Dufferin-Peel website or your school’s website. The survey will be open from February 6, 2017 to March 6, 2017.  The Catholic Community, Culture, and Caring School Climate Survey is now available for all parents and guardians to complete.   • The Scholastic Book Fair (PDF )
    What better way to promote reading to our students than by supporting this important literary event.    We invite your entire family to participate by purchasing the latest and greatest in children’s books. Your support of this vital literary event is key in helping us obtain new books and resources for our library and classrooms. At last year’s Scholastic Book Fair St. Catherine of Siena students and families surpassed our goal of 250 books. I have set a goal for this Book Fair to meet or even surpass that amount again this year.  Please look for the Goal Chart when you visit the Book Fair in the library and help reach our goal and please ask about our NEW library wish list that include students’ suggestions for the library.

  • Dental Screening - January 17-20, 2017 (PDF)
    FREE dental screening for All Grades at school by Peel Public Health on January 17-20, 2017. A dental screening is a quick assessment by a Registered Dental Hygienist who will take a look inside your child's mouth. A separate, sterilized mouth mirror is used for each child. If a child is identified as needing additional treatment, a form will be sent home and the parent may be contacted by a dental staff member. A re-screening may be required. Peel Public Health will no longer be sending out paper exemption forms. If you DO NOT want your child to be screened, please visit the web portal at www.peelregion.ca/dental/schoolscreening or call 905-799-7700 extension 5622 by January 16, 2017.

    Hey Parents, our Siena Terry Fox Run/Walk will be on Friday, September 30, in the afternoon. Your child must wear running shoes, a hat, and red/white because Terry Fox is a true Canadian hero!! Please remind your child to bring a reusable water bottle! It’s going to be a HOT day!!!! Please also remind your child to bring a Toonie for Terry to raise money for cancer research.  Thank you!

    All are invited to attend our first Catholic School Council (CSC) meeting of the year on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at 6 p.m. in the school library/meeting room.  This is our first meeting for this school year. Come out and find out what Catholic School Council is all about. Your children will benefit from your involvement.  You will have an active voice in what is happening at the school and hear about all the wonderful things that are happening at Siena.  Please note, there will be no child care provided.

    Just a reminders about tomorrow's (Sept. 22) BBQ/Open House. The BBQ will take place from 5 - 6 p.m. (note that food will not be served after 6 p.m.) while class visit are taking place from 6-7 p.m.  Also, we're asking families and staff to donate soap to the Canadian Food for Children ministry, we will be accepting donations at tomorrow's  BBQ.

    The Siena S.A.C. Committee is planning a Spirit Day on Friday, April 15. To help welcome Spring, the committee will have (i) Movie Day for our students in FDK to Grade 5, presenting a Columbia Pictures’ animation, Hotel Transylvania 2 and (ii) Spring Dance for our students in Grades 6 to 8.

  • Personal Electronic Devices on Board Premises and/or Board Sanctioned Events for Educational Purposes:
    The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board acknowledges the value of the use of technology for learning.  Students are permitted to register and use personal electronic devices (PEDs) on board premises and/or board sanctioned events for educational purposes, under the direction of staff and only with parent/guardian permission.  Students may register their PED for the purpose of connecting to the board wireless network.  Students are required to adhere to the student “Personal Electronic Device Used with WI-FI Network Student Agreement” (GF 337) and the “Network User Application and Agreement.” (GF066)  Please be advised that the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board will not be responsible for any cost incurred through the use of personal data plans.   PEDs are to be used responsibly and should not interfere with learning; their use must comply with the Catholic Code of Conduct, board policies and procedures.   Any personal communications (i.e., phone calls, text messages, etc.) will continue to be directed through the main office.  Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in a loss of PED privileges and/or any other consequences deemed necessary by school administration.  The school principal may authorize limited acceptable uses of personal electronic devices during school-sanctioned activities for a specific designated purpose outside of instructional spaces and/or in common areas.  Students are responsible for the safety and security of PEDs at all times and the Board assumes no responsibility for lost, damaged or stolen devices.

  • Michael Wade is coming!!! Well-known author Michael Wade is visiting St. Catherine of Siena School on Monday, May 4. He has written the best-selling And Then It Happened series of books. He will be giving two presentations in the afternoon speaking to the grades 3 to 8 students. All are welcome to listen and witness his enthusiasm and cleverness as he speaks about reading books as well as writing them.  On the day of the visit, signed copies of his books will be available for the special author day price of $5.00 each including GST or the complete set of 12 books for just $35.00 including GST.  These books normally sell for over $90.00 for the set. If you wish to purchase one or more books, please have your child bring exact change on the day of the visit. Also, all attendants will receive a Catholic Education Week prize ballot.

  • SEAC Parent Reaching Out Grant: Read & Write Gold – Supporting Literacy
    Dufferin-Peel Catholic D.S.B.’s Special Education Advisory Committee [SEAC] cordially invites the parents of students with diverse learning needs to attend a parent engagement workshop entitled Read & Write Gold – Literacy Support Software for Home.  This two hour interactive session is offered twice; on Tuesday April 14th and again on Thursday April 16th 2015 from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at  Dufferin-Peel Catholic Education Centre, 40 Matheson Blvd West, Mississauga, Ontario L5R 1C5 in Room 301. A light dinner will be available at 6:30 p.m. All registered participants will receive take-home resources. Registration is requested by March 31, 2015 to the attention of Laura Conte either by e-mail at laura.conte@dpcdsb.org or by phone 905-890-0708 ext. 24011.   • Letter to the Community: Revised Health and Physical Education Curriculum
    On February 23, the Ministry of Education released its updated Health and Physical Education Curriculum. Read the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board’s letter to the community regarding the revised curriculum.Read more.

  • The Online Reporting Tool:  The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School board has developed a new way to help nurture a safe, caring and inclusive school environment.  The Online Reporting Tool is intended for students in grades 3 – 8 who become aware of bullying incidents and negative behaviours.  The student can simply ‘click’ on the link found on our school’s website to fill out the report.  The report will then be directly emailed to the principal and/or vice principal and will be dealt with accordingly.

    It is important to recognize that the Online Reporting Tool is an alternate reporting option.  It is best practice to speak directly with a responsible adult at home and/or in the school.

  • Parent Evening - Next Generation Learning - Wednesday, February 25 (PDF)
    On Wednesday, February 25, both St. Timothy and St. Valentine School will be host a Parent Engagement Evening from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. highlighting curriculum, technology and 21st century learning happening in Dufferin- Peel schools.  Some of the sessions will include: Faith, Numeracy, Literacy, Inquiry based learning, Inquiry/Outdoor Education in Kindergarten, Responsive Classroom Design, Assistive Technology and Special Education, and Blended Learning to name a few.

Our feature presentation will be Hotel Transylvania, and will be viewed outside in the school yard, weather permitting. It is open to all students and their families. Parents/guardians must accompany their children to the show. Tickets are $3.00/person, which includes admittance, a raffle ticket, popcorn and a drink. Seating will be provided, but please feel free to bring our own lawn chair and cozy blanket. Gates will open at 5 p.m., with the movie starting at 6 p.m.

  • Grade 8 Students - Secondary School Bus Information
    As you prepare to transition to secondary school, this letter provides information regarding
    transportation services for secondary students. The policy of the Dufferin-Peel Catholic
    District School Board is to provide transportation services for all secondary students who
    reside more than 3.8 kms from their designated secondary school, or for students who
    reside more than 3.2 kms from their designated school in communities with no public transit
    service. All transportation services are provided by STOPR (Student Transportation of Peel

  • Dufferin-Peel Catholic Board extends busing eligibility for secondary school students: Approximately 2,050 more students in Grades 9-12 now eligible for busing MISSISSAUGA – At its meeting on June 17, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board approved a reduction in transportation distance eligibility for secondary school students from 4.8 kms. to 3.8 kms. Dufferin-Peel parents/guardians and students can check their eligibility for busing based on the new distance after July 1 by visiting the STOPR website at www.stopr.ca and clicking on the Am I Eligible for Transportation link. 

  • We are pleased to be able offer your child the opportunity to join the Ready, Set, Read! Summer Reading Club.   This program is an exciting project offered jointly through the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board and the Public Library system.  For an hour each week for 6 weeks, Dufferin-Peel teachers will be modelling and demonstrating a variety of reading comprehension strategies during read-aloud sessions. To apply, go to www.dpcdsb.org.  The system will remain open until February 28, 2014.   Note: All submissions, which meet eligibility criteria, are accepted.
